After the demise of the highly successful indie-rock quartet Paper and Sand, lead singer turned guitarist Wil Farr sought out to create a project that would resonate with his fans. In 2009 this project became a success with the creation of the new group called Hurrah! A Bolt of Light!
The band attracts usual indie-rock fans with its captivating lyrical consciousness, while being oddly appealing to punk rock and light pop fans alike. Farr’s talent spreads much further than lyrically; his vocals are both endearing and enticing. With surprisingly enthralling sound, Hurrah! A Bolt Of Light is persistently pushing to become one of the most relevant sounds in modern indie-rock.
The album starts off with “I Sold My Soul”, a jumpy, pop-reminiscent introduction paired with solid lyrics and echoing instrumentals. Songs like “In Over My Head” and “Life Is a Mystery” perfectly capture the band’s overall sound, encompassing pop-like electronics, standard rock instrumentals, and haunting indie vocals; when used in combination with the band’s shockingly powerful lyrics, a sound is created that is innovative, emotionally provocative, and enthusiastic. Hurrah! A Bolt Of Light is a vivacious and surprisingly innovative addition to indie-rock.
