The St. Bonaventure University men’s basketball team looks to return to the win column against Duquesne University, Wednesday evening in the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.
Since conference play began on New Years Eve, the Bonnies have gone 1-6, after starting the season 11-2. They have gone from one of the best teams in the A-10 Conference to second last in the standings.
Bonaventure comes off a 97-62 loss against No. 21 St. Louis. Bonaventure not only surrendered the most points they have all season, but also scored their lowest point total. The Billikens dominated the game and galvanized many Bonnies fans to leave early.
Despite the team’s recent struggles, senior forward Frank Mitchell continues to be one of the best players in the country. Mitchell leads Division I with 91 offensive rebounds this season and averages 16.6 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.
The Dukes come into this one with an 11-9 record (3-4 A-10) and a win against Loyola Chicago on Saturday. In the win, senior guard Terrance Guinyard led all scorers with 23 points. Guinyard enters this contest as the first player in the A-10 to reach 100 assists. Duquesne also relies on junior guard Jimmie Williams, who averages 16 points a game.
The Dukes will be trying to win back-to-back games for the first time since December.
The two teams met up 3 times last season, with Bonaventure winning twice. The Bonnies lead the all-time series, 72-65.
The game will air on ESPN+. Radio coverage can be heard on the Bonnies Online Network, 100.1 FM Bradford & Olean, 1340 AM Jamestown, 106.9 FM Hornell, and 92.1 FM Rochester.
