The Buffalo Sabres may finally have a chance to break their 14-year playoff drought. They have been one of the worst teams in the Atlantic Division over the last 14 years. The team has struggled to become a legitimate threat in the NHL’s toughest division.
However, changes to the front office and roster have allowed the team to flourish. This is significant because the Sabres are often overlooked due to their poor performance. There is still some work to do, but the trend is promising.
First, the organization fired general manager Kevyn Adams and promoted senior advisor Jarmo Kekalainen to replace him. He brings a strong winning mentality and provides outstanding support for the players.
Since Kekalainen’s promotion, the Sabres have won 16 of their last 19 games and are on pace for 100 points this season.
Second, the organization reshaped the roster. For example, although the move came under Adams, the trade that brought defenseman Michael Kesselring and forward Josh Doan from the Utah Mammoth in exchange for forward JJ Peterka drew heavy criticism. Since that trade, along with other acquisitions, the roster has thrived.
Forward Tage Thompson’s strong play this season also earned praise from Turner Network Television announcers.
This revamped team now pushes toward success. The young players’ ambition and drive to become a contender renewed interest among fans who once doubted Buffalo. This marks a fresh and exciting moment for the city after years of waiting. Hopefully, the Sabres can end their 14-year playoff drought and make the postseason.
