Bonnies Make Second Half Comeback to Beat Colgate

The St. Bonaventure men’s basketball team made a 13-point comeback to defeat Colgate University, 85-77 Wednesday night at the Reilly Center.

The first two minutes of the game saw back and forth action with both teams putting up six points. The Bonnies went on an 8-0 run during the four minutes, taking a five-point lead. The Raiders responded with a 20-2 run, grabbing a 13-point lead.

Both teams scored 13 points during the last eight minutes of the first half, keeping the Colgate lead at 13. Bonaventure senior forward Frank Mitchell scored seven points during the stretch. The Raiders lead 47-34 at halftime. 

The Bonnies started the first seven minutes of the second half on a 16-4 run, shortening the deficit to 1.

Both teams traded baskets for the next six minutes with multiple lead changes. Bonaventure used a 14-4 run to take a 10-point lead with three minutes to go. Colgate made a late push but fell short.

The Bonnies improved to 10-1, while the Raiders fell to 6-5.

Four Bonnies recorded double-digit points, including senior guard Cayden Charles, who scored 20, and Mitchell, who scored 19 points and 18 rebounds. Colgate junior guard Jalen Cox led all scorers with 26 points.

The Bonnies travel to Cleveland to face the University of Ohio on Saturday. The Raiders travel to Gainesville to face the University of Florida on Sunday. Bonaventure’s game will air on the Bonnies Online Network, 100.1 FM Bradford and Olean, and 1340 AM Jamestown.
