With the 50th anniversary edition of George Harrison’s Living in The Material World album recently coming out, I took the time to listen and reflect on the complexity and spirituality of the album. I thoroughly enjoyed the album, and I would like to highlight a few songs from it that I feel encompass the entirety of the album.
The Light That Has Lighted the World
This song has the main message of how change can be difficult to accept. It has the same universal truth of finding the light in darkness, something that I have been struggling to accept in this ever-changing world. This song makes me feel sad, but also very hopeful for the future, especially for many of my friends’ futures. This song should be on your playlist, and I highly recommend the song.
Don’t Let Me Wait Too Long
For an album that focuses on the spirituality of God and George, this song may seem out of the ordinary, but it is not that unusual. He is very open on his relationships with both Pattie Boyd and his future wife, Olivia. He speaks lovingly about Pattie in this song, while not mentioning her name at all. It is a wonderful love song, and it speaks to my heart.
Be Here Now
Be Here Now is a song that teaches people to be in the present moment. It makes you think while also forcing you not to think about anything. The song teaches us to let go of our past and not to dwell on the future, just to Be Here Now currently. It is a very good song to listen to and it makes you think about how to live your life.
Overall, this album was a great listen. It made me think about how I live my life and how to love everybody with all of my heart, unconditionally. God loves us unconditionally, and George knew that when he made this album. Therefore, this album is a wonderful time spent, and I highly recommend it.
Rating: 4 ½ stars, 10/10.
