The Buccaneers were struggling when they drafted David. However, this did not deter him from having a stellar career.
During his 14-season career, David finished fifth in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting, earned one Pro Bowl selection, three All-Pro selections and one Super Bowl championship. Not only were these accolades impressive, but he also broke records with the Buccaneers.
David broke NFL and Buccaneers records throughout his career. During his final game, he tied former Buccaneers linebacker Derrick Brooks in all-time tackles in Buccaneers team history. He also recorded 62 more tackles than Brooks in his first four seasons with the Bucs. That same season, he set a franchise record for fumble recoveries with 21. He also tied some National Football League records.
During his career, David made NFL history. He recorded more than 1,500 tackles, 40 sacks and 10 interceptions, joining former linebacker Ray Lewis. He also joined Julius Peppers, Mo Lewis and Greg Lloyd as the only players to record more than 40 sacks, 30 forced fumbles and 10 interceptions. David also played a role in the Buccaneers’ championship run in 2020.
David helped the Buccaneers win a Super Bowl. Tampa Bay defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9, with David providing pressure against Kansas City.
Respect the Production. Honor the consistency. Give David his gold jacket.
