PITTSBURGH, Pa. — The St. Bonaventure men’s basketball team faces La Salle University in the first round of the A-10 tournament on Wednesday morning at PPG Paints Arena in a win-or-go-home game.
Wednesday’s matchup will be the final game of head coach Mark Schmidt’s career if the Bonnies lose.
Bonaventure ended the regular season with a 15-16 (4-14, A-10) record and enters the matchup on a three-game losing streak. Its most recent loss came on Saturday, falling to Davidson College 68-63.
Senior forward Frank Mitchell, the Bonnies’ scoring leader in the regular season, averaged 16.4 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. They also rely on junior guard Buddy Simmons II, who averages 16.3 points per game.
The Explorers enter the tournament 9-22 (5-13, A-10) and have lost eight of their last 10 games, including an 88-76 loss to Saint Joseph’s University on Saturday.
Redshirt sophomore guard Rob Dockery led all scorers with 25 points in the loss and averaged 11.8 per game. La Salle is also led by graduate guard Jaeden Marshall, who averages 12 points per game.
The two teams last met in January with the explorers winning 78-74.
In the 2025 A-10 tournament, Bonaventure lost to No. 1 Virginia Commonwealth University in the quarterfinals, while La Salle lost to the Hawks in the second round.
