BRONX, N.Y. — The St. Bonaventure men’s basketball team defeated Fordham in a tight game Saturday afternoon at Rose Hill Gymnasium.

It marked the third straight game the Bonnies played into the final minutes, but this time they secured the win.   

Junior guard Buddy Simmons II led the Bonnies with 23 points. Senior guard Cayden Charles chipped in with 21 points.  

The Bonnies opened with a 6-2 lead, but a 15-5 Rams run gave Fordham a six-point lead. Bonaventure answered with a 16-2 run to retake the lead.

Fordham outscored the Bonnies 15-6 the rest of the half to take a 34-33 lead into halftime.  

Both teams traded baskets for the first 10 minutes of the second half, each scoring 19 points.

Bonaventure held a one-point lead entering the final minute. Fordham failed to score over the final four minutes of action, and the Bonnies secured the win.

The Bonnies improved to 14-10 (3-8, A-10), while the Rams fell to 12-12 (3-8, A-10).  

Bonaventure will return to action next Saturday when they host Duquesne. Fordham stays on the road to face Saint Joseph’s on Tuesday. Bonaventure’s game will air on ESPN+, and radio coverage can be on the Bonnies Online Network, 100.1 FM Bradford & Olean, 1340 AM Jamestown, 106.9 FM Hornell and 92.1 FM Rochester.
