I found Comfort Club through his hit single “New Ways to Miss You” back in 2019, which was his second released song on Spotify. Since that moment, I have been a fan and have been watching the growth of indie pop/rock rising artist, Comfort Club.

Not only does he make amazing music you will not hear anywhere else, but he has a great community where I follow him on Instagram that all his followers wonder how his talent has not brought him to the top already.

He is an artist, no doubt about that. But on top of that, he is a friend that is there for you. Whether that be the wise, inspiring, and helpful lyrics that make you know you are not alone or through actually talking to him, you can tell he is a down-to-earth person.

Being able to interview him was a great experience for me. I got to learn more about the artist I love listening to.

The Interview

My first question is, when did you start songwriting/singing/song making?

“I started playing guitar in 2013 and then never made it around to writing songs until about 2017 and finally released my first EP in 2018! Getting started was the scariest part and every step of development is a huge personal victory. I remember sitting in the living room back in 2014  with my brother trying to figure out how to play guitar and sing at the same time and I literally didn’t have the coordination to move my mouth and hands at the same time. I’ve come a long way since then.”

Who/what inspired you to start?

“John Mayer was my inspiration starting out. I saw him in concert in 2013 and it completely changed the course of my life. I began obsessing over his music and learning every last word of every song and figuring out how to play them. I’ve always had a bit of an obsessive personality so I’m really glad that I found music because it’s a passion that never gets old or runs out.”

Getting into your music, how would you classify the music you make?

“I think I make sad music with a happy face on it. I try to explore heart wrenching feelings in a way that makes listeners feel like they’re not alone. I try to write from a lyric-first standpoint to make sure I’m strongly conveying a message and then tying it to a vibey musical part is where the magic happens. I feel really happy to say that I think I’m getting good at that!”

What’s your favorite song out of them all you have made?

“I think my favorite song is one that’s going to be on the album. The title track.

I think it’s the most honest, stream of consciousness song I’ve ever written. Being honest in music is a little tough for me because I’ve always tried to just write what I think is a good song but on this album I really figured out how to get the feelings from my heart to come out of my mouth.  It’s the most proud I’ve ever been of myself as a songwriter & truthfully, i think, as a human.”

You said an album? Finally an album. I know I have been waiting for this. So what’s the scoop? What can you tell us?

“I am so excited to have the chance to talk vaguely about this album. That’s like a musician rite of passage to be vague and drop easter eggs!  I just kind of went through some life changes, had my heart broken for the first time and used writing an album as a way to process those emotions I’ve never felt before. It’s rare to experience new emotions for such a sustained amount of time. It was brand new to me so I was able to write these deeply personal songs in handfuls at a time. It’s the fastest and most natural songs have ever come to me!”

I totally understand you do not want to give away major details of the album. I can guarantee you poured your heart and soul into it. All I know is that it is going to be amazing. I cannot wait for its release! Thank you so much for this opportunity and for your time Comfort Club!
